We need your help to get a fair outcome for off-grid homes, businesses – and the heating industry
As announced in the last issue of Oil Installer, an expanded HVO demonstration project has been taking place over winter. In all, 15 fuel distributors have been involved and 93 homes and businesses have been successfully converted, with a further 33 scheduled. The sites chosen are right across the UK and reflect the wide range of situations where oil heating is used.

• Almost a third (29%) of boilers failed to receive a scheduled check due to lockdown delays. One in ten did not receive a check at all.
• A quarter of Brits do not know that boilers require annual servicing, with a fifth (20%) of renters not knowing whether their boiler had been checked within the last 12 months

As we move to deliver a low carbon liquid fuel, we recognise that burning the fuel is only one piece of the jigsaw. The product has to be stored, transported and distributed to the end user. In Ireland, that’s where UKIFDA and FFI come into play.
Many consumers and businesses have taken advantage of the recent low cost of heating oil and some may even have purchased new and/or second hand tanks to store the fuel in. These tanks are likely to have been placed in rear gardens adjacent to an existing tank, with little thought given to the tank base, fire safety or whether the total volume stored now exceeds the domestic storage regulations.
