Oil tank fire causes devastation

Fire crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were called out to a property in West Alvington, near Kingsbridge in Devon following reports that a domestic oil tank was alight.

On arrival at the scene, the fire crews discovered that four oil tanks were alight. The tanks, which were housed in a concrete compound alongside some wheelie bins, set alight as a result of a fire in one of the bins.

Although no one was hurt, the tanks and two thousand litres of oil were severely damaged and weeks on, the contaminated area is still being treated by spill specialists.
