£12m for boiler replacement

The Department of Social Development has pledged £12m to fund a boiler replacement scheme in Northern Ireland over the next three years.

Homeowners earning less than £40,000 per annum, who have a boiler more than 15 years old, can apply to receive up to £1000 towards its replacement. The grant can be used to fund replacing an inefficient boiler for a more energy-efficient condensing oil or gas boiler, switching from oil to gas, or switching to a wood pellet boiler.

“This is excellent news for consumers looking to upgrade to a new modern appliance,” said David Blevings from OFTEC Ireland.

“OFTEC fully endorses the scheme, because installing a modern ‘A’ rated condensing oil appliance will offer a significant increase in boiler efficiency, save energy and reduce fuel bills by up to 18% for consumers.

“We would recommend consumers use an OFTEC registered technician to carry out their new installation as they are trained, independently assessed and fully insured to provide a practical, cost-effective and compliant installation,” added David.
