“An un-notified installation can be a real headache,” says Adrian Lightwood, registration services director
OFTEC has made it easier for its technicians to register installations of new oil boilers and oil tanks by opening a new telephone service for notifiable works.

Registered technicians who have set up a direct debit for notifying works can call 0845 65 85 080 and choose option one to register a new installation between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. The charge is £5 plus VAT per notification. Technicians can also still notify online at www.oftec.org for £2.50 plus VAT or by fax on 09055 689 003 at £5 plus VAT.

All technicians registered through OFTEC’s Competent Persons Scheme are able to self-certify their work. This is considerably cheaper and quicker than submitting plans and applying for building control inspection with local councils.

Registration services director, Adrian Lightwood, said: “In England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, failure to certify installation work is a criminal offence. Also, from a householder’s perspective, an un-notified installation can be a real headache when it comes to selling their home and the installer may well get an enquiry from the home seller’s solicitor when the required certification is missing.

“We want to make it as quick, easy and cheap as possible for registered technicians to notify their work and comply with the law. That’s why we’ve set up the phone service in addition to the existing on-line and fax options as part of the all-round support package OFTEC offers.”
