Winning hearts and minds

Could the UK lead the world in building a genuinely low carbon economy? Julia Bradbury thinks so.

“The nation’s army of more than 120,000 installers is the key to convincing consumers that energy efficient technologies don’t have to cost the earth, but could save a fortune,” said Julia when she opened Plumb Center’s Practical Installer arena at Ecobuild 2014.

One of Ecobuild’s most popular attractions, Practical Installer is a working showcase which shows installers and homeowners the benefits of solar, biomass, heat pumps and water efficiency.

“Installers are the key to winning hearts and minds, and we’re determined to give them the tools to deliver a more energy efficient nation,” added Plumb Center’s renewables director, Simon Allan. “Plumb Center is supporting installers every step of the way through its UK-wide network of more than 500 branches.”

Julia, who is currently renovating her London home, is about to start a new project on ITV showing how Britain’s landscape and architecture has framed its history. Built in the 1800s, Julia’s house will feature a full range of technologies including a heat pump, double insulation and rainwater harvesting.

“We’re really trying to keep our running costs low for the future, and that’s why we’re investing in energy and water efficiency now. We must all communicate the benefits to people around the country.” www.plumbcenter.co.uk
